Patient Preparation Guide

Proper preparation ensures accurate test results. This guide from First Care Medical Lab covers everything you need to know before your laboratory tests or scans.

Patient Preparation Guide

Fasting Instructions

Some tests require 8–12 hours of fasting (water only). Fasting tests include: Fasting Blood Sugar, Lipid Profile, and some hormonal assays. Schedule fasting tests for early morning. Your booking confirmation will specify if fasting is required.

Hydration Tips

Drink plenty of water before blood tests — hydration makes veins easier to find. For abdominal and pelvic ultrasound scans, you may need to drink water to fill your bladder. Avoid caffeine and alcohol before tests.

Medication Guidance

Unless instructed otherwise, continue taking prescribed medications. Inform our staff of all medications, supplements, and herbal remedies you are taking, as these can affect results.

What to Bring

Bring a valid ID, your doctor's request form (if any), previous test results for comparison, and your health insurance card if applicable. Wear comfortable clothing with sleeves that can be rolled up.
